FAQs

Q: What are educational requirements to become a Registered Financial Planner ?

A: Generally RFPI prefers to see a candidate possess a Bachelors or Masters degree in finance, accounting, economics, or business from a nationally accredited university or college. In some instances, an Associates degree will be considered if coupled with extensive experience in financial planning and/or certifications or licenses.

Q: What if I don't have a college degree or I have a college degree in something other than finance, accounting, economics, or business?

A:  Some of RFPI's best members don't have a college degree or originally obtained a college degree in the pursuit of a career unrelated to financial planning. In general, these members have demonstrated extensive experience in financial planning and have obtained certifications and/or licenses.

Q: I took all of the classes for another professional designation but did not pass the exam? Am I still qualified for the RFP designation?

A: In many cases, the answer is Yes. The best way to determine this is to submit an application to RFPI being sure to include copies of all materials related to the coursework completed.
